Ford Transit Roof Options

For a Ford Transit, the roof height is one of the most important decisions you’ll make, especially since you are quoting custom builds. While Ford officially uses the terms Low, Medium, and High, you will often hear aftermarket terms like “Sport” or “Raised” roof. The Ford Transit high roof is a factory option.

Here is the breakdown of how these heights translate to real-world use for your conversion projects:
1. Low Roof (The “Garage-Friendly” Option)

Interior Height: ~56.9 inches (4’9″).

Best For: Daily driving, standard parking garages, and “stealth” camping.

The Trade-off: You cannot stand up inside. Most adults will have to move around on their knees or in a hunched position. It is generally chosen for work vans or weekenders where the van is just for sleeping.

2. Medium Roof (The “Sweet Spot”)

Interior Height: ~72 inches (6’0″).

Best For: Most conversion customers. It offers a balance between interior space and drivability.

The Reality: While the factory spec is 6 feet, once you add your subfloor, insulation, and your Adobe-font-ready ceiling panels, the actual standing height drops to about 5’10” or 5’11”. Taller clients will still need to crane their necks slightly.

3. High Roof (The “Full-Timer” Choice)

Interior Height: ~81.5 inches (6’9″).

Best For: Customers over 6 feet tall or those installing a shower.

The Reality: This is the only option that allows for a “true” standing experience after a full build-out. Even with thick insulation and a floor, you’ll have roughly 6’6″ of headroom.

Note: This van will not fit through a standard drive-thru or most car washes.
